Four million buckaroos were poured into renovating Echo Canyon Trail in 2013. The east side of the mountain was closed for just less than a year, reopening to hikers and no dogs in January 2014.
The base parking lot doubled in size, growing from 66 to 135 parking spaces. The lowest end of the Echo trail was smoothed out and lengthened to replace what had become a dilapidated dirt trail and giant staircase. Bathrooms replaced porta-potties, walkways were added, more signage was placed and the residential neighborhood next door was given their own private drive to avoid traffic and mishaps with parking hikers.
